Farewell to my Canton Friends!

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I will miss my Friday nights in Canton, what a summer we had.  I got to see some bands I love and was introduced to some new ones.  To be sure, Detroit has such a wealth of great muscisians!  I loved seeing old friends and making new ones as our listeners came out in the hundreds each Friday and we gathered in parking lots along Ford Road.  Some sat in the chairs provided, some brought there own, some sat in the back of their vans with the gate open, some on grassy patches on blankets….but everyone enjoyed the music.  From toddlers to seniors–people danced and listened.  We gave away tons of prizes with our dance contests as brave souls climbed on stage to show us what they had.  Thanks so much to the Canton DDA…they deserve a big shout out for throwing this party for free.  As a visitor, I not only felt welcome…but almost like a resident by the time it was all over.  They’d love to hear your comments on how they can make it even better next year–so let them know–or send me your comments and I’ll make sure they get them.  Either use the comment section below, or write me at kovach@wvmv.com.  PS:  Don’t forget about the September 6th Concert with Chieli Minucci and Special EFX…it’s your chance to support the arts in Canton and see a great show….details are on our Calendar Page!

Brian Culbertson’s surprises and your chance to own a collector’s item!

culbertson_sk_cd_web.JPG  A vistit from Brian Culbertson always brings fun and usually surprises.  Last time when he was in town promoting “Bringing Back the Funk”, he told us some interesting stories about Maurice White, writing a tune via cell phone with Larry Graham and more.  This time he told us about acquiring some original Motown sessions for remixing—specifically Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up.”! Wow this super producer really is super to be trusted with such a gem.  You can hear him tell us all about it on the “video on demand” section of the website.  He heard some pretty remarkable things on the origianl recordings…you’re not going to want to miss what he said…so make sure you take a look at the video if you haven’t already!    Now, of course we know Brian is an awesome keyboard player, trombone player (and not bad on the bass as it turns out on his latest cd).  “Bringing Back the Funk”, which was executive produced by Maurice White, is one of the best cds of 08.  Brian autographed a copy when he stopped by the studio before his Chene Park Show….and you can own it.  Just go to the rewards points section and find out how to enter to win!  Good luck…
